The Subrosa Blog is now complete
Please be aware that this incarnation of the 'Subrosa Blog' has now ended - why not visit the new Stuart Homfray weblog?.
Of course, that's not to say that the Subrosa blog will never return... I may decide to reincarnate it as a sort of sideblog or something!
If you've arrived here via a search engine results page, you may also wish to consider entering the site via the main entrance, as Subrosa itself has now outlived it's usefulness...

Farewell Pioneer 10
The power source on Pioneer 10, launched in March 1972, finally failed (or, at least "...degraded to the point where the signal to Earth dropped below the threshold for detection in its latest contact attempt..." on 7 Februray 2003).
I remember being fascinated by this probe when I was younger, and it was probably one of the main instigators of my early fascination with astronomy. Since then, this fascination lessened to become a mild interest, and it's only really now that I feel just a little saddened by it's loss of contact with Earth (it's a lump of metal filled with electronics - I know!!)
As I wipe away a tear (well, OK, that's stretching it slightly!:), I'd like to wish it all the best on it's long, silent journey through deep space, on it's way to Aldebaran - a star in the constellation of Taurus
The story's mentioned in a couple of other places: The BBC, and NASA News. If you're interested in finding out a bit more about this 'OAP probe', then you may also wish to try a search for Pioneer 10 info at Space.com
Considering the times that we are living in at the moment (and the fact that I keep insisting that people see the 'bigger picture'), I think it's worth 5 mins thought about the even BIGGER PICTURE: the fact that outside our little blue planet, there's a whole universe out there...
Right, melancholia moment over :)

Mobilizing the Protestors
Here's an article that I received via Declan McCullagh's EXCELLENT Politech mailing list. It's a look at how the logistics of protest organization has changed with the advent of the internet, email, and text messaging [and I've placed it on my subrosa site - even though it was originally written for the New York Times' Week In Review Critical Mass section, dated 2003-02-23]

Well, THAT was a long break :)
Right, I'm back and this time it's personal. After a little break caused (in the main) by, a) lack of time, and b) the small matter of my site hosts relocating to new servers after they received a DOS attack. At least now they seem to be able to remain available for more than a few hours - no, to be fair, since getting it all sorted out, they DO seem to be pretty stable. I'll let you know if this situation changes... (obviously, it would be on The Alternative Subrosa, though :)
Other new (well, new-ish) stuff: if I see any useful/interesting articles that I wish to refer to, or that I would like to pass on a small, but brilliantly formulated opinion :D, then I'll stick it in my articles database
Other, other stuff: done some SEO work on agentBase (a register of sales agents), and Scooterway (they sell scooters, go-peds, and servicing). Scooterway was a site that I also designed originally, so it was a little easier to hack around the Javascript and HTML than the agentBase site. I've also set up a website for C. John (a carpet, rug and tapestry dealer) based in Mayfair, London. There's a couple of other bits and pieces too, but basically, I'm not going to say what they are (I have my reasons... no, you'll NEVER get me to spill the beans... if I tell you, MI5/MI6/CIA/FBI/MFI* will come and get you! ;)
If anyone WANTS to pass comment on these sites, then please feel free to do so (but don't expect me to neccessarily listen! ;D )
