Villa Get Randy

As an Englishman, I am obliged to be amused by ‘double entendre’ and therefore, the ‘Carry On..’ series of films. In actual fact, I’m not really a fan of those films but I do, like any other citizen of Albion, still giggle like a 12-year-old at sexual innuendo!

To get to the point: there were a few interesting articles on the takeover of Aston Villa by US businessman Randy Lerner in this morning’s Times, but I have to highlight the following introduction to a piece by Patrick Kidd:

WITH a name that makes him sound like a character to be played by Sid James in Carry On Driving School, Randy Lerner is bound to become the subject of a few imaginative chants from the Villa Park faithful.

Thank you Patrick. Mr. Lerner’s name was amusing enough beforehand; now, I’m not going to be able to see or hear it without thinking of Sid James‘ wonderful “mwah-hah-hah-hah-hah” laughter!

After The Quarters…

If you followed the previous World Cup ramblings on here, you might have wondered what happened to the semi-final and final reviews.

There are two reasons for stopping:

  1. My grandmother died, so the competition rapidly lost some of it’s appeal;
  2. At the same time, I had a couple of projects come in that needed to be completed (obviously less important than #1 but still needing to be done)

I still watched the Final between France and Italy (and was a little disappointed by the Italian victory - no offence to anyone from that wonderful country, but I thought France had played much better football), but you know, I just couldn’t be bothered to write anything about it!

One other (unrelated) point addressed to comment spammers. Have you ever seen any comment spam on this blog? Despite deluging it with your idiotic efforts, you can clearly see that there’s none here, so why don’t you go and find something more useful to do with your life? Maybe you could create something that’s worth linking to; you never know, it might just work…

World Cup 2006: Days 20-21 - Quarter-Finals

The confident, psychologically-stronger Germans defeat an Argentina that tried to hang on to it’s lead, Italy walk over Ukraine, and France ‘wear the yellow and green’ in their defeat of Brazil.

And, of course, England lose on bloody penalties once again!

World Cup 2006: Day 18 - Round of 16

Italy once again grind out a result proving that it really ain’t over ’til it’s over. Ukraine and Switzerland make you wish that it was over before it really was!
